Thoughts about Collaborative Law on Mother's Day from investment guru
Lynn O'Shaughnessy
Divorce does not have to mean disaster
Welcome to my Collaborative Law page. While divorce is an unfortunate fact of life for many families you should know it
does not have to turn your life into a combat zone.
Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive
at that goal.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
My work with families in therapy, as well as experience serving as an expert in litigation, has helped me form insights
into the difficulties families in transition experience. One striking conclusion is that there generally is no 'winner' in
family court -- often everyone involved becomes a casualty of the process.
If you are considering divorce, are currently divorcing, or are thinking about child custody litigation you have a number
of options beyond the traditional 'fight' in court. Collaborative Law offers one
excellent option for families before they become entrenched in litigation. Even if you are already involved in litigation
there are other options that may help your family move forward.
If you are a professional working with families I am also available to help on individual cases or provide inservice
training. I offer a number of support services for attorneys as well as consultation and continuing education for
therapists, counselors, and social workers regarding divorce and child custody issues. Please
contact me to discuss your needs.
Mission
Actualizing the belief that divorce and other difficult family changes can be managed without unnecessary strife by helping
families resolve issues with dignity and fairness in order to move forward with their lives.
Quotes to note
"Discourage litigation. Persuade your neighbors to compromise whenever you can.
Point out to them how the nominal winner is often a real loser - in fees,
expenses and waste of time. As a peacemaker, the lawyer has a superior
opportunity of being a good man. There will still be business enough."
